update: last lesson with taylor is next week.

two concerts with the jazz orchestra this weekend, may 2 and may 3, 8:00 pm, crowell concert hall, wesleyan university. phil woods is playing with us on saturday. i'm playing piano with the band, and also in smaller combos with the vocalists. i'm singing backup on a stevie wonder tune. i'm playing vibraphone. and, the jazz orchestra will be using a horn arrangement that i put together over the last week for dont mean a thing. life is so good!

alex, my roommate, asked me today what i would have done had i had let myself remain music-less for my entire college career.
i really didnt know what to say to that. i realized that i would never allow a thought like that to enter my mind.

  nika: congrats on finding the voices album. jess klein played solo at morgans two nights only, several years ago; i was about 14 at the time, my dad had read about the gig in the weekly, and we decided to give it a shot. i bought her wishes well disguised album after that performance, and today was actually the first day in months that i pulled it out for a listen - its in my D: drive as i write this. unforunately, since morgan no longer uses his venue for musical performances (save for mjf student jams, as far as i know), she never had a chance to come back to monterey, but she certainly still would if there was somewhere for her to play... i remember her marveling about the west coast while she tuned her guitar between songs.
about a year ago she came out with a cd on some semi-prominent label, and she was featured at a border's listening station for a month or two for her song little white dove. unfortunately nothing major really came of that... but more people are hearing her as time goes on.
she plugged voices on the verge at the end of her set, but i never checked them out. you'll have to enlighten me sometime soon. :)  ¶ 15:38
